Brief History: The word "lac" comes from the Sanskrit "laksha," meaning 100,000, symbolizing the vast number of lac insects that produce this natural resin. References to lac date back to the Atharva Veda, which mentions its medicinal value and the ideal host tree, Palsah (Butea monosperma). Lac is also referenced in the Mahabharata’s famous Laaksha Gruha story.
